We work for and with residents of neighborhoods of Gdansk. We are an open institution of culture, which regularly organize themed lectures, film series, music concerts, handicraft workshops and practical training.<\/p>\n
WE INSPIRE
\nWe encourage residents and visitors to discover the city through alternative walks, lectures, and regular meetings about different aspects of Gda\u0144sk, its architecture and history. \u25cf We inspire to discover urban spaces through artistic practices.

\nWe issue publications about Gda\u0144sk, its identity, and urban culinary practices. \u25cf We support cultural sector employees through workshops, courses, conferences, and research.

We support the cultural sector in Gda\u0144sk and the region.<\/p>\n We work for and with residents of various Gda\u0144sk neighbourhoods. We are an open cultural institution that regularly organises lectures, film reviews, intimate concerts, handicraft workshops, and practical courses.<\/p>\n We organise festivals (of art in public spaces, literature), urban events and guided walks. We do research in the Observatory of Culture and publish books. We are interested in an open culture associated with Gda\u0144sk and its districts, available for residents and co-created with them.<\/p>\n History<\/strong><\/p>\n The City Culture Institute derives from the entity responsible for Gda\u0144sk\u2019s bid to become the 2016 European Capital of Culture. In March 2011, three months before the competition finale, the bureau (previously acting as a general partnership) transformed into Gda\u0144sk 2016, a local government cultural institution. In March 2012, it was renamed the City Culture Institute. According to the assumptions adopted by Gda\u0144sk, taking part in the competition \u2013 irrespective of its result \u2013 was supposed to enhance the city\u2019s cultural life by initiating new projects and through strategic actions meant to increase the role of culture in urban life. The City Culture Institute continues many projects designed during Gda\u0144sk\u2019s bid to become the 2016 ECC, such as the Monumental Painting Festival in Zaspa, the Narracje Festival, the European Poet of Freedom literary award and festival, Active Citizens, and Local Guides.<\/p>\n We organize festivals (public art, literature), urban actions and walks with guides, conduct research in the Observatory of Culture and spend the book.
