Co może być nam dane jako podróżnikom lub obserwatorom, kiedy mijamy nieznane miejsca? Jakie znaczenia możemy nadać stale zmieniającym się – pojawiającym zawsze tylko na chwilę – obrazom za oknem? Na czym polegają nasze relacje z towarzyszami podróży i czy spoglądamy na świat również ich oczami?

Hide or Reveal podsumowuje doświadczenie dwutygodniowej podróży, poznawania nowych miejsc i ciągłej zmiany lokalizacji. Jest rezultatem badań artystycznych, które odbyły się w ramach wypraw Corners na Bałkany i Kaukaz – to właśnie wtedy autorki projektu spotkały się po raz pierwszy. Na prezentację Hide or Reveal składają się zdjęcia i teksty: seria fotografii dokumentuje towarzyszy podróży, widoki i chwile spędzone w drodze, z kolei poetycki tekst ilustruje subiektywne odczucia podróżujących.

Artystki realizujące projekt:

Helena Wikström (Umeå, Szwecja) – artystka wizualna i kuratorka. W swojej pracy używa takich mediów jak fotografia, instalacja i obraz, by za ich pomocą badać struktury społeczne lub używa ich jako narzędzi do odkrywania znaczeń konkretnych detali umieszczonych w szerszym kontekście. Razem z Gerdem Aurellem tworzy sztukę odnoszącą się do kwestii planowania miejskiego i demokracji. Wikström wystawiała m.in. na Litwie, w Korei Płd., Czechach.

Wikström jest członkinią grupy prowadzącej niezależną przestrzeń Verkligheten („Rzeczywistość”) oraz dyrektorką galerii White Cube w Umeå.

Una Bauer (Zagrzeb, Chorwacja) – badaczka teatru i pisarka, która posiada tytuł doktora Queen Mary University of London. Jej zainteresowania obejmują taniec, teatr fizyczny, eksperymentalne praktyki performatywne, szczególnie te skupione wokół natury socjalizacji.

Bauer wykłada na Akademii Sztuk Dramatycznych w Zagrzebiu oraz uczy w ramach kursu aktorstwa i mediów na Uniwersytecie w Rijece. Recenzuje sztuki teatralne i przedstawienia teatru tańca, jest autorką analiz, dzienników podróży i innych formy literackich. Jej teksty drukowane były lub znalazły się w audycjach rozgłośni radiowych w Chorwacji, Słowenii, Rumunii, Włoszech i Wielkiej Brytanii.

Hide or Reveal

What is offered to us as travelers or observers when we pass by unknown places? What meaning can we assign to constantly changing, shortly appearing images in front of the window we are sitting by? How do we relate to our co-travelers, and do we see things with their eyes too?

The publication “Hide or Reveal” sums the experience of two-weeks-long travellings, meetings of new places and constant change of location. It is a result of an artistic research that took place in the framework of two CORNERS Xpeditions: Balkan and Caucasus, where its creators, Helena Wikström and Una Bauer met. Series of photos documents fellow-travellers, landscapes and moments spent in transition while the text illustrates subjective feeling of travelling.

Artists involved:

Helena Wikström (Umeå, Sweden) – a visual artist and curator, living and working in Umeå, north of Sweden. She uses various media such as photography, installation and painting to examine structures in society or as a tool to find out what a specific detail can narrate in a broader context.

Together with Gerd Aurell, Helena has been working with art that focuses on urban planning and democracy.
Helena is a member of the artist-run space Verkligheten (“Reality”) in Umeå and director at the White Cube gallery at NorrlandsOperan in Umeå.

Una Bauer (Zagreb, Croatia) – theatre scholar and writer. She holds a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London. Her fields of interest are dance, physical theatre and experimental performative practices, particularly those focused on the nature of sociality.

She teaches at the Academy of Drama Arts (Zagreb) and Acting and Media Course at the University of Rijeka. She writes theatre and dance reviews, analysis, travelogues and other types of texts, which have been published and radio broadcasted in Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Italy and UK.
