A take-away coffee with a poem, free poem giveaways, reader-friendly areas in Główne Miasto arranged with the support of IKEA Gdańsk, poems on public transport, billboards, poster pillars, in shop windows, on walls, in pubs and restaurants. Poetry in the City is a campaign organised by the City Culture Institute to enable passers-by to discover poetry every day, everywhere, at all times in various urban settings. www.poezjawmiescie.pl.

To lose a photograph is to lose the same moment twice (Daniel Jonas). This and other poems by poets nominated for the European Poet of Freedom Award of the Mayor of Gdańsk or by authors united in the Versopolis network will appear in unexpected urban locations as part of a new campaign organised by the City Culture Institute: Poetry in the City.

Short poems will be showcased in cafes, restaurants, bars and bistros around Gdańsk. The following venues have already joined our initiative: Faloviec, Kurhaus, Avocado, Drukarnia, Ziemia, nie/mięsny, Pułapka, Józef K, Cafe Lamus, W Starym Kadrze…

How about briefly stopping for a poem when you walk around the town? On 2 June, three reader-friendly zones were arranged in Gdańsk’s Główne Miasto, encouraging passers-by to pause for a moment, read and reflect. The furniture was provided by IKEA Gdańsk.

You may also read poetry on poster pillars in Oliwa, Wrzeszcz and Główne Miasto and on billboards located on Słowackiego St., Trakt Św. Wojciecha, Al. Armii Krajowej and Oliwska St.

Poems have also been showcased in shop windows around Główne Miasto: a hairdresser’s, optician’s, computer shop…

The campaign forms part of the June Celebration of Freedom and Solidarity in Gdańsk, www.2019gdansk.pl.
