WOMEN’S ROUTES IN GDANSK SHIPYARD

Tours around the Gdansk Shipyard along the Women’s Trails begin. What was the crane’s job about? What role did women play in the strikes? Was being a worker something to be proud of? What was the social support of people working in the Shipyard and the plant’s cultural life like? We will learn the answers to these questions during summer walks. Due to the sanitary regime, entries for walks are required and the number of people is limited.

Walks around the Gdansk Shipyard along the Women’s Trails show the facility through the eyes of cranes, engineers, cleaners and administrative workers. During the tour, we learn how work in the Shipyard influenced the employees’ lives. We get to know the stories of: the rebellious crane woman, culture animator, Solidarity activists and the everydayness of the strike in August 1980.

During the tour, we will hear many anecdotes and trivia, e.g. about the shipyard’s gardening, where tulips and carnations distributed at the plant for Women’s Day came from. We will find out where the Director’s Villa, Pattern Shop and hall 46A with the mural “Daddy! Work safely”, where Anna Walentynowicz worked on overhead cranes.

Walks take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. In July, they start at 6 p.m. (Wednesday and Friday) and 4 p.m. (Sunday). In August and September, they start at 5 p.m. (Wednesday and Friday) and 4 p.m. (Sunday).

Touring is free. The walks are intended for adults. Due to the sanitary regime, entries for walks are required and the number of people is limited.

Each tour has a limited number of people, along with confirmation of participation in the walk, the participant receives information about the starting point. All participants are required to comply with the rules of walks, which they accept when registering, including wearing masks and maintaining social distance.
