Coming up in June: the Non-Congress of Cultural Leaders in Gdańsk!

The Non-Congress is the principal meeting of cultural leaders in Poland. It takes place every two years, each time in a different city. The organisers of this year’s edition are Forum Kraków, the city of Gdańsk, the City Culture Institute, and the Gdańsk Archipelago of Culture. The meeting will take place on 15-17 June 2023. 

On 5 January, we met among institutions, NGOs and universities for a workshop to kickstart work on the programme of this year’s Non-Congress. We were analysing the most poignant challenges awaiting the cultural sector and the subjects that should take the spotlight in June. 

The meeting was opened by members of the Forum Kraków board who came up with the event idea: Anna Michalak-Pawłowska (President of the Board) and Marek Sztark. The workshop chair was Joanna Grandzicka from TEAL Action Learning Global. We discussed the shape of the 2023 Non-Congress in various subgroups, focusing on organisational matters, content, and relations between the participants. Some recurrent subjects included diversity, accessibility, continuity and continuation, building relations before the event and sustaining them afterwards. 

Previous editions of the Non-Congress took place in Warsaw, Poznań, Lubiaż and Lublin. The event attracts several hundred participants from all over Poland: cultural leaders involved in the theory or practice of organising cultural events, working at institutions, NGOs, and universities.
